Iran comes 3rd in Informatics Olympiad

TEHRAN — Iran came third in the 28th International Olympiad in Informatics, IRIB reported on Saturday.

By earning two gold medals and two silvers Iran managed to achieve the third place in the informatics Olympiad.

The event was held in Russia with 81 countries taking part in the competition from August 12 to 19. The U.S. and China came in first and second respectively.

The International Olympiad in Informatics is one of five international science Olympiads. Its primary goal is to stimulate interest in informatics (computing science) and information technology.  In May 1989, UNESCO initiated and sponsored the first International Olympiad in Informatics. 

The 29th Olympiad in Informatics will be held in Iran next year.
